GAYATRI is given in Section XIV of the fifth canto of the Brhadaranyaka Upanishad. We chant:

AUM TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DIHMAHIM
DHIYO YO NAH PRACODAYAT

Oh, adorable splendor of light,
fill our minds and senses with effulgence.
Inspire our intellects.

The SHANTIH MANTRAM is chanted to close each series of the chanting of the mantras:

AUM PURNAMADAH PURNAMIDAM
PURNAT PURNAM UDACYATE
PURNASYA PURNAMADAYA
PURNAMEVA AVASISYATE
AUM SHANTIH, SHANTIH, SHANTIH

That plenitude is perfect.
This plenitude is perfect.
This plenitude arising from that plenitude is perfect.
Even when this plenitude ceases to be,
that plenitude will be perfect.
AUM peace, peace, peace.
